Today I watched an improvisation performance by a trio at OTO and remembered this person named Dominic Lash. An improvisational gambler with a balance of intellect and animality. I wanted to buy two of his CDs, but I only had enough money for one. He said it was okay and gave me two. I told him I would treat him to a drink next time we meet.
One of them is called "But everything now left before it arrived," and I really like the saxophone played by John Butcher in it.
In the afternoon, I met an engineer at OpenAI. This person is like a very agile little squirrel. It has been raining outside, and there have been football matches these days, so the bars are noisy. It was only around 5 o'clock when I arrived at OTO, and there were still three hours before the performance started. It shouldn't be crowded at this time. I brought a book with me but couldn't find a quiet place to take shelter from the rain. So I pushed open the light blue door of OTO and asked if I could volunteer today. Although the staff kindly said that if I needed a shelter, I could stay without being a volunteer, I still volunteered. So I found a place to sit down and started reading.
During the sound check, I was attracted for a few seconds. At half past seven, they started lighting candles, and people gradually arrived.
Dominic Lash replaced John Edwards, and I was originally curious about John Edwards based on the enthusiastic recommendation of my friend Mabu. Since I was nearby in the afternoon, I spontaneously decided to buy a ticket to see it. I'm so lazy that I even confuse myself about things I'm passionate about.
I remembered watching an animated film called "Kakegurui." Although gambling is an act that requires skill and experience, the impression that film gave me was that the more someone lives in the past, the more they lose, and the more burdened someone is with heavy expectations, the more they lose. A good gambling game is not about competition, but about a lively and exhilarating dialogue in a hidden rhythm.
Improvisation is the same. Thinking and not thinking, intuition and subconsciousness, memory and the present, anticipation and deviation, rationality and madness, knowledge and animality, they intertwine with each other until the end.
It's been a long time since I pretended to be clever and drew a picture.
